Aloha!
Welcome to Nancy Ikeda's Volcano Girl website! Originally created by Terry Gleason to document my 2012 trip to Hawaii, I have now finally redesigned and "updated" it.
Geology is my "hobby"--I enjoy it so much that I got a second master's degree in it. I am particularly interested in earthquakes and volcanoes. I have been lucky enough to dabble with both. Earthquakes: I am currently using my math skills to do research on earthquake magnitude distributions. Volcanoes: I volunteered (twice!) with the US Geological Survey (USGS) at the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) on the Big Island of Hawaii. I love Hawaii--it's like my second home! It's a geologist's dream-come-true to come face-to-face with lava. Words cannot describe how amazing it is to watch lava flowing! It's so mesmerizing--I could just watch it for hours! (It's really, really, REALLY hot, though!)
I've shared some of my awesome experiences in Hawaii and with volcanoes on this website. I hope you enjoy my adventures! Feel free to contact me at nikeda@fullcoll.edu.
